Eide Sognelag in Eide was founded 5 December 1930 on the initiative by teacher Joh,
Markussen and had from the beginning, as their main objective; - to maintain
the correspondence between the emigrated people from Eide and their home
parish. - Support and initiate the work of writing the history of the parish.
The activity within the association was quite substantial in the early years
(1930 - 1939), in this period the association published three copious
pamphlets.
After the war the local council together with Eide Sognelag appointed a book committee. The task of the committee was to collect enough
material to publish the local history of Eide parish and its inhabitants. Peder
Woxholt, one man of grate significance to the later published books, died in
the early 50 ties. After his death there was no activity within the
association.
The association was re-established in 1967, and the
regulations was changed and the objects of clauses went like this;
The object of Eide Sognelag is to take care of all cultural values connected to
former Eide parish, write the history of "Eide sogn" and as far as
possible, engage it self with work related to increase the standard of living
for the inhabitants within the old municipal borders.
In the period from the re-establishment and up to the beginning
of 1980 ties all the work within the association was focused on the
publishing of the first two books in the series of " SAGAEN OM EN
SØRLANDSBYGD "
Volume
#1 that was published in the early 70 ties deals with the general
evolution of the parish from the very first pioneers/settlers 6000 years ago
and up to approximately 1970.
Volume # 2 is a house/farm history, which goes up to year 1900.
In 1983 the work of gathering old names of places within the parish started,
names that probably would die out or simply vanish with the old people. NAVN I
EIDE (local toponym) was published in 1991, and another valuable source of
information had been added to the portfolio of local history.

Publishing the books has been a very expensive event and a major money contributor in this matter has been (since 1967) the local " SØRLANDS KVELD I HOMBORSUND", a type of arrangement with lottery - music - contests of various types and/or just a place to meet.
Over the years, a lot of people from Eide immigrated to USA
and in April 1935 the " Eide laget av New York " was founded in
Brooklyn. The founders of Eide laget av New York was; Andword Lindtveit -
Thomas P. Svennevig - Anders Svennevig and Charles Nelson. The association in
New York must have been very active, members of the association have been known
as counting as many as a 100, some say even more. After the 2nd world war
" Eide laget av new York " was dissolved and most of the members
joined Sons of Norway.
